Casting Call - Ottawa Art Film (Please circulate widely)
CASTING CALL
In association with SAW Video, an independent art film titled, "Send Me Postcards" will be filmed in the Ottawa area in the months of September and October 2009. This progressive, all ages film is a story about family, show business and the search for self that centers on a woman who rocks out while explaining some of the colourful events of her life to a child in her extended family.
Auditions will take place on TBA dates and times in downtown Ottawa during late August, 2009.
Filming in September and October, 2009.
Roles To Be Cast:
1. Extras – People of various ages, “looks” and backgrounds for restaurants and street scenes. For example, do you look good carrying groceries or riding a bike? Well then, apply now! (Yer not "Extras", yer "Essentials.")
2. Boy – About 5 to 10 short light hair (blonde, brown red), brown eyes (actors up to 10 can apply if they appears younger than their age) – Ability to sing and shout a plus! Parent or Guardian must available to be on set at all times (usually weekends.) We’re looking for a child who we can “explain things to” and they will actually “get it” on an artistic level.
3. Mother – late 30’s - 40’s, under 5’7 in height (Valid driver’s licence preferred)
4. Piano Teacher – Mid 20’s 6 to early 30’s, 6 ft tall or under. Being able to play something on the piano, or at least look like it is preferred, but not essential. (While acting experience is not essential, we seek someone who can deliver a range of emotions and be believable delivering dramatic scenes and drastic lines as well as doing a “Disney-Rated” love scene.)
5. Children – Children aged 5 to 10 of all backgrounds to be part of a scene involving children singing. Parent or Guardian must available to be on set at all times (usually weekends.)
6. Homeless Man – early 30’s-40’s man with a rough, punk or bearded look
7. Drag Queen 1 – 20- 40’s (real drag queens preferred)
8. Drag Queen 2 - 20’s - 40’s (real drag queens preferred)
9. Odd Drag Queen 3 – 30-40’s, to present a disheveled drag (real drag queens preferred)
10. Farm Hand 1 – 20’s – 30s man
11. Farm Hand 2 – 20’s – 30s man or woman
12. Farm Truck Driver – 20’s – 40’s Open to anyone looking really “country” (Valid driver’s licence preferred)
13. Young Guy – 20’s to 30s man who can portray a sort of suburb square / preppy looking guy. (Valid driver’s licence preferred)
14. Bar Tender – 20s – 40s Open to anyone looking like a convincing polished bar tender
15. Bar Owner – 20s – 40s Open to anyone looking like a convincing looking bar owner
16. Waiter for Cocktail Bar – 20s – 40s Open to anyone looking like a convincing waiter
17. Country Gas Station Owner - 20s – 40s Open to anyone looking like a convincing country gas station owner
18. Convenience Store Cashier - 20s – 40s Open to looking like a convincing convenience store cashier
In general we are looking for people who are:
- Available for filming from the start of September to the end of October, 2009 (usually a few hours on weekends.)
- Willing to travel to locations outside of Ottawa for the day (Wakefield, Perth etc.) (Transportation will be provided.)

A not to be missed opportunity for actors and actresses who would like to build their experience working on independent films and add a new role to their acting portfolio – or their “life portfolio.”
All roles are voluntary & non-union. Food and refreshments will be provided on set, as the budget permits. Reliable transportation and related costs to the set locations will be provided, as necessary. Child actor and parent may receive a small honorarium, as the budget permits.
Cars:
We ALSO seek the use of the following cars for about 1 hour each, at a time convenient for the owners. Cars will be used on closed sets, driven only a few meters each and treated with respect. Car owners remain present on set. (A small honorarium for gas and time may be available to car owners, depending on budget.)
1. One early 90’s junker car ( Ford Festiva or Dodge Shadow, Chevy Cavelier etc)
2. One Farm Truck ( beat up half ton or other truck with open back)
3. One old convertible car
4. One late model BMW

Notes:
A few of you are literally actors and actresses. Many of the rest of you are certainly actors on the stage of life, and know others.
